Afcons Infrastructure Limited has received a Letter of Award from Vadhvan Port Project Limited (VPPL) for constructing a 10.14 km breakwater at the upcoming Vadhvan Port in Maharashtra. The project award value is Rs 5,301 crore, excluding GST. This will be the second longest breakwater in the world upon completion.
Mr Krishnamurthy Subramanian, Executive Chairman, said the award confirms Afcons' expertise in complex marine infrastructure projects and advances India's goal of becoming a global maritime hub. Mr S Paramasivan, Managing Director, said securing this project strengthens the company's track record in executing large-scale infrastructure.
Afcons has executed several major marine projects including the Bulk Jetty at Port of Sohar in Oman, one of the deepest ports in the world; the New Owendo International Port in Gabon, completed in a record 18 months; and the Sulphur Jetty in Kuwait. Engineering News-Record (ENR) has ranked Afcons as the 8th largest marine and port facilities contractor globally and among the top 140 international contractors worldwide.
Vadhvan Port is planned as India's largest public port with a handling capacity of 23.2 million TEUs. Afcons Infrastructure Ltd, the flagship infrastructure company of the Shapoorji Pallonji Group, operates in 31 countries across South Asia, Africa, the Middle East, and the CIS region. Afcons is also ranked 12th globally in the bridges category by ENR.
