Alkem Laboratories Limited has become the first company in India to launch semaglutide in single-shot pre-filled syringes at a starting price of Rs 350. The launch, announced on June 2, 2026, offers the molecule in a ready-to-use format with multiple dose strengths and pricing structured to lower entry barriers to treatment.
The Drugs Controller General of India (DCGI) has cleared Alkem to manufacture and market semaglutide pre-filled syringes for the management of Type 2 diabetes mellitus and obesity as an adjunct to diet and exercise. The single-shot pre-filled syringe format is designed to provide enhanced access and convenience for patients.
Alkem introduced semaglutide in pre-filled disposable and reusable injection pens in India in March 2026. The new syringe format, combined with the existing pen range and the planned launch of approved semaglutide vials, gives Alkem three delivery options for the molecule in the Indian market.
Regulatory approval for semaglutide vials has already been secured, and Alkem plans to launch them in the near term. The product expansion forms part of Alkem's growing portfolio in chronic therapy segments such as diabetes.
Dr. Vikas Gupta, Chief Executive Officer of Alkem, said semaglutide has the potential to change how metabolic disorders are managed in India. He added that the launch of pre-filled syringes widens the choice available to doctors and patients, alongside the pen options introduced earlier. Gupta noted that offering multiple practical drug delivery formats is an important step in helping more patients start and stay on therapy amid a continuous rise in metabolic disease burden in India.
