Balrampur Chini Mills Limited (BCML) and the Lucknow Cantonment Board launched the Bioyug Green Command 2026 initiative on World Environment Day to advance India's bioplastics ecosystem. Defence Minister Shri Rajnath Singh attended the event as Chief Guest.
The initiative follows a landmark MoU between Balrampur Bioyug and the Lucknow Cantonment Board and BCML's first institutional order for compostable PLA-based products. PLA (Polylactic Acid) is a bioplastic derived from sugarcane that biodegrades within 180 days. BCML is setting up India's first PLA plant with a capacity of 80,000 tonnes per annum.
Two panel discussions were held at the event. The first session explored policy support, manufacturing capabilities, and market opportunities for scaling the bioplastics value chain in Uttar Pradesh. The second session examined the role of sustainable materials within defence establishments.
The programme recognised meritorious ITI girl students under the Balrampur Bioyug Bioplastic 3D Printing Project in Lakhimpur Kheri. The initiative aims to equip young women with advanced manufacturing skills through hands-on training in 3D printing using Bioyug PLA, enabling access to employment and entrepreneurial opportunities.
BCML operates ten sugar factories across Uttar Pradesh with an aggregate crushing capacity of 80,000 tonnes per day, distillery capacity of 1,050 kilolitres per day, and power cogeneration capacity of 175.7 MW. BCML's allied businesses include distillery operations and cogeneration of power.
Over 2,000 stakeholders from government, industry, academia, defence, and civil society participated in the launch event.
