Bharti Airtel Limited has received a notice from the Department of Telecommunications, Uttar Pradesh (East) LSA, imposing a penalty of Rs 1,06,000 for alleged violation of subscriber verification norms. The notice was received on June 15, 2026 at 1753 hours IST and was disclosed to the stock exchanges under Regulation 30.
The penalty follows a Customer Application Form (CAF) Audit for April 2026 in which DoT alleged that Bharti Airtel failed to comply with subscriber verification requirements under its license agreement. License terms mandate that telecom operators carry out adequate verification of customers before enrolling them as subscribers.
Bharti Airtel has opted to pay the penalty and not contest the notice. The telecom operator submitted the disclosure to the National Stock Exchange of India and BSE Limited through a filing by the Company Secretary and Compliance Officer that included an annexure with the notice details.
The maximum financial impact from the action is limited to the penalty amount of Rs 1,06,000. The notice relates to alleged violations in the Uttar Pradesh (East) Licensed Service Area.
DoT conducts CAF Audits periodically to assess compliance with subscriber verification norms under telecom license agreements, and the April 2026 audit identified the alleged lapses that led to the penalty notice.
