IEX Reports 15.9% YoY Growth in Electricity Traded Volume in Q1 FY27

Indian Energy Exchange Limited (IEX) reported electricity traded volume of 37,534 million units in the first quarter of fiscal 2027, a 15.9% year-on-year increase. The Real-Time Electricity Market segment contributed 16,019 million units, up 23.5% from the year-ago period.

Market Clearing Price in the Day-Ahead Market averaged Rs 5.1 per unit during Q1 FY27, a 15.7% rise compared with Q1 FY26. The Real-Time Electricity Market clearing price stood at Rs 4.5 per unit, up 13.8% year-on-year. India's peak power demand reached an all-time high of 270.8 GW in May 2026, and total energy consumption touched 485.4 billion units in Q1 FY27, growing 8.8% year-on-year.

In June 2026, IEX recorded monthly electricity traded volume of 12,210 million units, a 12.5% increase year-on-year. Real-Time Electricity Market volume for the month stood at 5,420 million units, up 25.7% from June 2025.

Market Clearing Price in the Day-Ahead Market for June was Rs 5.2 per unit, up 32.4% year-on-year, and the Real-Time Market clearing price stood at Rs 4.4 per unit, up 17% year-on-year. India's energy consumption in June reached 166.5 billion units, rising 11.6% year-on-year amid heatwaves and a delayed monsoon.

The Day-Ahead Market segment, including High Price Day Ahead Market, traded 13,344 million units in Q1 FY27, up 7.6% year-on-year. June Day-Ahead Market volume stood at 4,304 million units, down 6.6% year-on-year. The Term-Ahead Market recorded 5,344 million units in Q1 FY27, up 22.9% year-on-year, and 1,533 million units in June, up 58.7% year-on-year.

The Green Market achieved 2,827 million units volume in Q1 FY27, a 6.3% year-on-year increase. A total of 977,000 Renewable Energy Certificates were traded in Q1 FY27, declining 81.4% year-on-year due to lower sell bids.
