JSW Steel Limited has commenced development activities for its integrated steel project in the Rayalaseema region of Andhra Pradesh. The project is being set up by JSW Rayalaseema Steel Ltd, a wholly owned subsidiary of JSW Steel. The commencement ceremony was attended by Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu and JSW Group Chairman Sajjan Jindal.
The project involves setting up a 2 Million Tonne Steel Plant in phases. The first phase, with a planned investment of Rs 4,500 crore, will be a 1 MTPA integrated steel plant designed to manufacture low carbon emission steel products. The second phase, with an additional planned investment of up to Rs 11,850 crore, will expand capacity to 2 MTPA, taking the total project investment to up to Rs 16,350 crore.
The steel plant will use Electric Arc Furnace technology with recycled scrap and high-grade Direct Reduced Iron as raw material inputs to manufacture structural steel. The project is supported by planned infrastructure including road, rail, power and water connectivity in the Rayalaseema region.
Sajjan Jindal, Chairman and Managing Director of JSW Group, said the Rayalaseema Steel Project represents JSW's long-term investment in Andhra Pradesh's industrial potential. Jayant Acharya, Joint Managing Director and CEO of JSW Steel, said the project supports JSW Steel's strategy of building future-ready manufacturing assets and aiding regional industrial development.
The Rayalaseema Steel Project is expected to catalyse ancillary industries, logistics infrastructure and broader economic activity across the region. The project is being designed with a focus on operational efficiency, resource optimisation and low carbon steel production as part of JSW Steel's long-term decarbonisation roadmap.
