Samvardhana Motherson International Limited, through its energy business Motherson New Energy Limited (MNEL), has commissioned its first ground-mounted captive solar power project in Uttar Pradesh. The 15 MWp facility, located in Mahoba, was developed through its subsidiary Onega Solar Private Limited and will supply clean energy to multiple Motherson manufacturing plants across the state.
The solar plant is expected to generate approximately 23.4 GWh of renewable electricity annually, reducing about 17,000 metric tonnes of CO₂ emissions each year. The project will help reduce the carbon footprint of Motherson's manufacturing operations while improving long-term energy cost visibility and operational resilience.
The project was developed in partnership with ib vogt, a renewable energy development company, which supported land acquisition, regulatory approvals, technical design, and EPC execution. Laksh Vaaman Sehgal, Vice Chairman of Motherson Group, said the captive solar project strengthens the group's energy resilience while reducing its environmental footprint.
Kunal Vohra, COO of the Energy Business at Motherson Group, said access to competitively priced renewable power is increasingly important for global manufacturing operations. Parish Gupta, CEO and Managing Director of ib vogt Solar India, said the partnership supports accelerating industrial decarbonization through commercially viable renewable energy solutions.
The project aligns with Motherson's broader sustainability goals, including increasing renewable energy adoption and reducing carbon intensity across operations. It also strengthens the group's energy diversification strategy through long-term access to reliable clean power. Motherson New Energy Limited continues to evaluate additional renewable energy opportunities across multiple Indian states as part of the group's long-term energy transition roadmap.
