NTPC Green Energy Limited said its wholly owned subsidiary NTPC Renewable Energy Limited will develop a 250 MW solar power project integrated with a Battery Energy Storage System on vacant defence land at Sitapur, Uttar Pradesh. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh has granted approval for the project, marking it as the first large-scale solar power project with BESS aimed at strengthening energy security for defence establishments.
The battery storage component addresses the intermittency of solar generation, ensuring a stable and reliable power supply to defence units. The project, developed on vacant defence land, provides a model for utilising underutilised government land for renewable energy infrastructure across the country.
Power generated from the 250 MW solar installation with integrated battery storage will be supplied to various defence establishments across Uttar Pradesh. The combination of solar capacity and storage enables consistent power availability for critical defence operations.
NTPC Renewable Energy Limited, the wholly owned subsidiary, is responsible for executing the project development. NTPC Green Energy Limited is the renewable energy arm of the NTPC Group and is listed on the National Stock Exchange under the symbol NTPCGREEN and on the BSE under scrip code 544289.
The project adds to renewable energy capacity with integrated storage on government land. The initiative contributes to India's renewable energy goals and energy security for strategic establishments.
