Oil India Limited (OIL), through its wholly owned subsidiary OIL Green Energy Ltd. (OGEL), has signed a Joint Venture Agreement with Hindustan Waste Treatment Pvt. Ltd. (HWT) for developing integrated bioenergy and sustainable waste management projects in India. The agreement was disclosed to stock exchanges on May 27, 2026.
The partnership envisages the formation of a 50:50 joint venture company to pursue opportunities in compressed biogas (CBG), waste-to-energy, and allied sustainable infrastructure projects. These initiatives are aligned with India's clean energy transition and circular economy objectives.
OGEL was established to drive OIL's green energy initiatives, including CBG and other clean energy opportunities. HWT, a wholly owned subsidiary of SFC Environmental Technologies Ltd. specialises in the biogas sector with expertise across design, engineering, construction, commissioning, operations, and maintenance of municipal solid waste-based bioenergy projects.
HWT has deployed advanced global technologies under Indian conditions, including a municipal solid waste-based biogas plant in North Goa that has operated for over a decade. SFC Environmental Technologies Ltd. HWT's parent, also has a presence in wastewater treatment and water reuse solutions.
The proposed joint venture will explore CBG, integrated waste-to-energy, and sustainable resource recovery projects across suitable geographies in India. The partnership combines OGEL's institutional strength and energy sector experience with HWT's technological and operational capabilities to develop scalable clean energy solutions.
