Tata Steel Limited on Friday informed stock exchanges that a fire broke out on June 3, 2026 at the Port Talbot cold rolled products facility of Tata Steel UK Limited, its wholly owned foreign subsidiary in Wales.

The incident involved the Pickle Line at the plant. Tata Steel Limited issued the clarification to the National Stock Exchange of India Limited in response to a query regarding a news item titled "Fire causes substantial damage at Tata Steel UKs plant in Wales" published on June 4, 2026.

Tata Steel UK personnel followed emergency procedures and safely evacuated all individuals from the facility, with no injuries reported. Emergency services were alerted and arrived at the scene to assist in bringing the situation under control. Local isolations of major services, including utilities and fuel lines, were carried out to prevent further spread of the fire within the plant.

Tata Steel UK is currently assessing the cause of the fire and the extent of the damage to the Pickle Line and surrounding infrastructure. The subsidiary is evaluating any potential financial or operational impact arising from the incident. Tata Steel UK will actively pursue insurance claims to recover damages as appropriate under applicable policies.

Tata Steel UK is working towards ensuring that customer requirements continue to be met through deployment of alternate production assets within its network. The supply chain team is coordinating with affected customers to minimise disruption from the Port Talbot facility.

Tata Steel Limited stated that it will make necessary disclosures to the stock exchanges should there be any material developments arising from the incident or its assessment.
