Bharti Airtel penalised Rs 1,57,000 by DoT over subscriber verification norms

Bharti Airtel Limited has received a notice from the Department of Telecommunications (DoT), Maharashtra LSA, imposing a penalty of Rs 1,57,000 for alleged violation of subscriber verification norms under the License Agreement. Bharti Airtel disclosed this development to the stock exchanges on May 27, 2026, under Regulation 30 of the SEBI Listing Regulations.

The notice was received on May 26, 2026 at 1702 hours IST. The DoT conducted a periodic Customer Application Form (CAF) Audit for March 2026 and alleged non-compliance with subscriber verification requirements. Bharti Airtel is required to ensure adequate verification of customers before enrolling them as subscribers and comply with DoT instructions in this regard.

The CAF audit is conducted periodically by the DoT to confirm compliance with licensing terms and conditions related to subscriber verification. The audit for March 2026 identified alleged violations of these norms. The penalty notice was issued under the license agreement governing the company's telecom operations.

Bharti Airtel has opted to pay the penalty and not contest the notice. Bharti Airtel confirmed that the maximum financial impact from this action is limited to the penalty amount levied.

The filing was submitted to both the National Stock Exchange, where the company's equity trades under the symbol BHARTIARTL, and BSE Limited. The disclosure was made through the company secretary and compliance officer, with a declaration that the information provided is true and correct to the best of the company's knowledge.
